National Highways East closed the northbound carriageway between J14 and J15 after the collision happened just before 3.30pm this afternoon.
Emergency services and traffic officers sped to the scene and initially three out of the four southbound lanes were closed to assist their progress,
By 4pm traffic was queuing back to Junction 11.
Roads around the motorway are severely congested and entrances and exits to Newport Pagnell are particularly affected.
