There have also been several photos of teenagers sitting or walking together in groups of up to six or seven.

One resident said: "What is it people don’t understand? I’ve just been in my daily exercise walk and today I have seen a number of people blatantly flouting the rules.

"I have been passed by cyclists who think two feet is adequate. I've seen people sitting fishing in the canal, people sitting at park benches having a picnic and to cap it all two people who think it is necessary to take gym equipment to the park to do a workout.

"People should be disgusted with their behaviour in these troubled times."

Neighbourhood officer today praised people in the Shenley area, publishing a photo of the deserted pavilion playing fields.

A police spokesman said: "This was the view from Garthwaite Crescent Pavilion in Shenley Brook End. We were delighted to see not a single person out, thank you for staying home and saving lives."
