Chloe Temple, 22, was put in a privately rented two bedroom house on Eaglestone by the council two years ago after she became homeless.

When the rat problem began, she reported it to the agents for the landlord, who sent out a pest control company.

"The problem is that the rats just won't go. The pest control company is coming out every week now, filling in holes and removing dead and live rats from all over my house. But they can't get rid of them all," said Chloe.

"The rats are chewing through the food in my cupboards, leaving droppings all over my floor and I even find their wee dripping from my kitchen cabinets. It's just disgusting."

Other residents in MK, and indeed all over the UK, have reported problems with 'super rats' who grow to giant proportions and seems to be immune to conventional poisons.

Chloe says the rats at her Kite Hill home are a health hazard to her children Noah and Luca, who are aged two and one.

"I have to get up early every morning and disinfect my kitchen before they wake up and go in it," she said.

"I'm desperate to be moved, but the council just won't listen. When they first put me here, they said it was temporary accommodation and I'd be moved after six months. Two years on, I'm still here - with a house full of rats."

The agents for the £900 a month house, Northwood Lettings, have said Chloe's lifestyle conditions are to blame - but she hotly disputes this.

"I have tried laying traps and filling in holes but nothing seems to be working. The rats just won't leave," she said.

"I am at my wits end and it’s affecting my mental health. I’ve tried getting in contact with the local MP’s as well as social services as I feel like I’m failing as a mother allowing my children to live in these conditions."

The Citizen is awaiting comment from MK Council.
