A photograph of disgraced ex-mayor Subhan Shafiq is being proudly displayed on the wall of Milton Keynes Council.
Last year Mr Shafiq was forced to resign just three months into his respected role as mayor after it emerged he helped a rapist become a city cabbie.
But just one week before his successor, fellow Lib Dem Derek Eastman, hangs up his chain, Mr Shafiq has been added to the mayoral ‘hall of fame’ in the Civic offices.
The council say it is “tradition” to do so.
Speaking after scandal came to light, leader of the council, Pete Marland, admitted Milton Keynes’ reputation had been damaged by the affair.
But despite public pressure to resign, Mr Shafiq scuppered the chance of a by-election by resigning as a councillor after the deadline in late November.
He is now working as a taxi driver in the city, the Citizen understands.
A council spokesman said: “Mr Shafiq was Mayor, and we have always had a tradition of featuring portraits of all current and previous Mayors in the Civic Offices.”
