Standardised or ‘plain packaging’ refers to packaging that has the promotional aspects of tobacco products completely removed, and the idea is being backed in Milton Keynes.

“Packaging is the most important way tobacco companies have to communicate with the consumer and differentiate their brands from the rest,” said Muriel Scott, director of Public Health.

“Standardised packaging will increase awareness of health warnings and messages and reduce the use of designs that may mislead consumers about the harmfulness of tobacco products.”
