Police conduct road safety checks for parents on the school run in Milton Keynes

Thames Valley Police and Milton Keynes District Council have been conducting road safety checks focusing on parents driving their children to school in Milton Keynes.

The checks were carried out in Currier Drive at the junction with the V8 Marlborough Street on Friday morning.

“The aim of the operation was to speak to drivers who had children who were not suitably restrained in their vehicles, or drivers who were not wearing their seatbelts,” said Road Safety Officer, PC Liz Johnson of the Roads Policing Unit based in Milton Keynes.

“The operation was a success with a number of parents taking their children to school given suitable advice. Two drivers had more children than seats or seatbelts in their vehicles. The drivers were each issued with a ticket.

“Meanwhile, one driver had the chord exposed on his tyres. This driver was also issued with a ticket.

“I would urge parents to ensure the safety of their children and never take more passengers than the vehicle is designed for, even on short journeys.

“Other vehicles were checked for defects by officers, who also provided advice to drivers and handed out information leaflets.”
