Planning round-up: New homes, heritage works and school safety among latest proposals across Milton Keynes

Milton Keynes City Council has received a fresh batch of planning applications this month, featuring a mix of housing developments, heritage property improvements and essential works to local community buildings.

Residents are being invited to have their say, with public comments open for 21 days from publication via the council’s planning portal.

Among the proposals is a new two-bedroom home at 5 The Green, Woughton on the Green (ref: PLN/2025/1805). The plan seeks full permission to construct a modest new dwelling within one of Milton Keynes’ most historic village settings, known for its conservation area status and traditional architecture. The application will likely attract close scrutiny from planners to ensure the build complements the village’s rural charm and character.

Over in Wolverton, Bushfield School on Moon Street has submitted a retrospective application (PLN/2025/1816) to remove four unsafe, non-functional bell towers from its roof. The structures were deemed structurally unsound and have already been taken down. The application seeks to regularise the work carried out for safety reasons, ensuring compliance with planning rules.

In Stony Stratford, a proposal has been lodged to demolish an existing office and workshop and replace it with three one-bedroom dwellings at 3 Manse Close (PLN/2025/1955). If approved, the project would bring new housing to the popular market town, making use of previously developed land.

Further north, in Olney, an application (PLN/2025/2075)** seeks permission to install air conditioning units on the east side of a building adjacent to the Old Telephone Exchange, 6 East Street. The proposal, while modest, reflects the growing need to modernise local commercial premises without compromising their traditional facades.

Another Olney property, 34 Weston Road (PLN/2025/2333), is also the subject of a planning bid for significant external refurbishment. The homeowner seeks to remove a pebble dash façade, re-point the original stonework using lime mortar, restore wooden lintels, and replace doors and windows in a style sympathetic to the property’s original character.

Meanwhile, at Little Linford House, Little Linford Lane (PLN/2025/2248 and PLN/2025/2269), dual applications have been submitted for both householder permission and listed building consent. The proposals involve converting an existing barn into a two-bedroom annex, adding two single-storey extensions, and removing an existing greenhouse. Because the property is listed, the work will require careful oversight to ensure historic details are preserved while accommodating the new use.

Lastly, in Wolverton, a smaller domestic improvement is proposed at 32 Oxford Street (PLN/2025/2230), where the homeowner seeks approval to replace the existing front door and glazed top light with updated versions more in keeping with the area’s aesthetic.

All applications are currently open for public comment. Residents can review the details, plans and supporting documents by visiting the council’s planning register.

Those wishing to make representations — whether in support, objection or to request clarification — have 21 days from publication to do so. The council will consider all feedback before determining the applications in the coming months.
