Now Conservative councillors say MK Council should set a date to open its tips again,

Conservative Environment and Waste Spokesperson Cllr Dan Gilbert said: "As Boris Johnson set out last night, social distancing looks set to continue for some time to come, as a result Conservative opposition Councillors believe a plan for recovery that gets important council services back up and running in a safe manner is needed.

He added: "Central Bedfordshire, Bedford and Buckinghamshire have all now re-opened their Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs). Northamptonshire has also set a date of 18 May for essential use.

"MK now looks like an outlier, and residents will want to know why.

“We should be proud of the role Council officers have played responding to this crisis, and now we need political leadership to carefully plan ahead. We will continue to play our part as MK Council’s main opposition group, and always in a constructive manner.”

The council also scrapped collections of green bins at the start of lockdown, but this service has been resumed this week.
