Funding offered to Milton Keynes businesses that commit to greener transport methods

Up to £1,000 is available to businesses that take active steps to make green travel more feasible for its employees.

Milton Keynes Council is providing sustainable travel grants to businesses that can make walking, cycling and other green and active modes of transport more appealing and affordable to their employees.

The initiative was launched today (April 1), the council is now accpeting applications on its website.

The business must match the grant the council provides, which is capped at £1,000.

A spokesperson for the Council suggested the following initiatives:

-Adding or improving cycle parking or facilities such as showers

-Creating car sharing schemes or bays

-Installing electric vehicle charging points

-Improving pedestrian access

-Promotional events to encourage more sustainable commuting

-Buying or renting bikes to be shared by staff

Organisations can apply from 1 April on the council's website here.

The council spokesperson added the following qualifiers: "Applications must show a clear green benefit, and the projects should also represent good value for money. Businesses also need to agree to monitor the success of their green initiatives, to show what kind of positive impact they have."
