A free two-day event is being hosted by Milton Keynes Arts Centre to celebrate clay.

The weekend of fun activities for the whole family will be open to the public as ‘Hey Clay’, the Crafts Council’s national event celebrating clay takes place across the UK.

It will run alongside the arts centre’s Big Ceramic Fundraiser in the bid to raise £3,000 towards the cost of a new kiln for the ceramic department through a 12-hour sponsored pot throwing relay and ceramics sale.

The fun takes place on Friday, March 23 and Saturday, March 24, 10am to 4pm with hands-on activities to enjoy.

These include Pottery Wheel at 11am – noon; 12.30pm – 1:30pm; 2pm – 3pm.

Collaborate with Clay at 11am – noon; 12.30pm – 1.30pm; 2pm – 3pm.

Parent and Toddler Clay Play at 11am – noon; 12.30pm – 1.30pm; 2pm – 3pm.

There will also be self-led clay stations available to use alongside the workshops to learn DIY coiling and installation building, open 10am – 4pm. This is the perfect way to discover a new interest or practice your craft.

Children aged 11 and under should be accompanied at all times by a participating guardian who are supporting them during their activity.

There will be a ceramics sale, adopt a pot and a celebratory party rounding off the event on the Saturday from 6pm to 8pm.

The Big Ceramic Fundraiser Weekend includes a 12-hour sponsored pot throwing relay, from 6am to 6pm on Saturday when the arts centre top potters attempt to break records and raise funds for the new kiln.

They are aiming for a target of 150 pots which will be up for grabs for a small donation, available to glaze yourself or, have it glazed it for you.
