The safety recall issued by the retailer is in connection with boxed sets of 40, 100 and 200 multi-coloured and clear fairy lights (tracking numbers Kimball 39690/39691/39694), which were on sale between October 19 and November 28 this year.

A statement on the Primark website said: “Through our on-going due-diligence programme it has come to our attention that the fairy lights detailed above do not meet the Primark usual high safety for standards.

“We have found a potential issue with the performance of the plug that could lead to an electric shock.

“With the safety of our customers at the forefront of our minds we are inviting you to return any of the above items purchased for a full refund.

“If you have purchased any of these products then please return it to any Primark store where you will be offered a full refund.

“You will not be required to provide proof of purchase.”

The retailer has more than 250 stores across the country, including in Milton Keynes and Hemel Hempstead.
