City pupils proved themselves as number one in the county last week at the Center Parcs National Schools Championships.
26 teams took part in the county final with Stantonbury Campus winning the U14 Girls and U14 Boys categories and Denbigh winning the U16 Boys.
Both schools are now through to the Regional round on March 12 at Surrey Sports Park and are hoping it doesn’t end there! Stantonbury and Denbigh have both won the National Championships previously so the pressure is on to achieve again!
Bucks is such a strong county for badminton and with so many opportunities to play (www.playbadminton.co.uk), it’s easy to see why. As well as all the great opportunities for juniors in MK, there is now something for their parents.
Stantonbury Campus Leisure Centre and Woughton Leisure Centre are now working closely with BADMINTON England to develop No Strings Badminton. No Strings Badminton is a nationwide pay and play initiative with the aim of getting more adults on court in a fun and friendly environment. If you haven’t played in years, this is a chance to give it a go again.
Nina Bridge from BADMINTON England said ‘I’m so pleased for the two schools in Milton Keynes that have secured a place at the county final and also for The Royal Latin in Buckingham who won the U16 Girls category. The players really deserve their place at the Nationals so I’ll be cheering for them on 12th March in Surrey.’
In the Center Parcs Nationals Schools Championships 2011/12 1,300 schools entered, with over 21,000 children taking part.
