PureGym encouraging couples to exercise together

PureGym on Snowdon Drive are offering a 50 per cent joining fee discount for all new sign-ups for the next week in a bid to get city couch potato couples exercising again.

A survey carried out by PureGym revealed that almost a third of singletons are working up a sweat in the gym at least once or twice a week. Similarly, 31 per cent of respondents who were within the first six months of a relationship were exercising at least a couple of times a week.

But by the time relationships pass the year mark, rates of exercise start to decline. Just 16 per cent of those in a one to three year long relationship are exercising twice a week, with this figure dropping even further, to just five per cent for couples in a relationship of four to six years.

General Manager of PureGym Milton Keynes, Naj Cheyaka, said: “The figures from the national survey got us thinking about how we could get more people back exercising regularly, particularly those people whose focus on fitness has fallen by the wayside since getting loved up. We all know that exercise is an important part of a healthy lifestyle and I think it can play an important part in a healthy relationship too.

“We have therefore decided to offer the 50% joining fee discount for all new members who sign up. We hope this incentive will help encourage more people, and particularly couples from Milton Keynes to get back in the gym.

“Our gyms are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, which makes it easier for people to fit exercise in to their busy schedules. We also don’t tie our customers in to lengthy contracts, so they are free to give the gym a try and decide whether to stick with it on a month by month basis.”
