Radcliffe wins Milton Keynes School's Parliamentary Debating Competition

Shenley Brook End school were runners up in one of the most closely scored finals in recent years having won the competition more times than any other school in nearly a decade of the annual contest.

“In nearly ten years of organising this competition for our secondary school pupils, I can safely say the standard gets better each year.” Iain Stewart MP for Milton Keynes South said.

“This is a testament to the hard-work of the students and their teachers. The future of our young people is very bright indeed.”

Mark Lancaster, MP for Milton Keynes North added: “I am delighted MK North has taken home the trophy! Congratulations to Emily and Anna, you were outstanding. The competition continues to grow in popularity, every year we see more and more interest from students, parents and teachers. It has been an honour to help organise it since being elected as a Member of Parliament and I am looking forward to next year’s already.”

Each year, 16-18 year old students representing their schools are put through their paces as they debate on policy motions covering a diverse range of subjects. For the finals, the teams debated on the moral obligation of elected representatives to ‘carry out the expressed will of the electorate’.
