WOLVERTON Station has taken a step closer to completion after the roof was finished.

On Tuesday a Topping Out ceremony was held to mark the event, conducted by deputy mayor, Councillor Catriona Morris, members of the Wolverton Steering Group, the contractor and the design team.

Work started on the construction of the new railway station for Wolverton on June 13 last year.

The inpressive new building which replaces the present station will be in keeping with Wolverton’s Victorian architectural and rural heritage.

A bouquet of evergreens was placed on the building with a plaque donated by Wolverton Society for Arts & Heritage and hand crafted by the apprentices from Railcare.

The station will include a new ticket office and booking hall, a seated waiting area and toilet facilities. Users will also benefit from an improved footpath along Stratford Road leading to a ramp and new steps directly opposite the station.

The new building is due to be formally opened in the spring.
