Milton Keynes Museum has joined an elite group of heritage organisations after being awarded Full Accreditation by Arts Council England.
The award is recognises the museum meeting a range of standards for managing its collections effectively for the enjoyment of visitors.
It is a key step towards ambitious plans for a £7.2million expansion of the museum, featuring two major new galleries telling the story of the area from pre-history through to the present day.
Museum director Bill Griffiths said: “This is a large site with a varied collection that we have got this far is amazing and a real tribute to our volunteers and to my deputy.
“Accreditation means we have reached a standard that confirms Milton Keynes Museum is capable of caring for our heritage.
