Restrictions on tall vans using recycling centres in Milton Keynes

The measures mean vehicles taller than two metres will only be able to use the ‘trade waste’ entrance at the Newport Pagnell CRC and will not be able to use the centres at Bleak Hall and New Bradwell.

One tradesman, who wished to remain anonymous, said the restrictions would lead to increased flytipping around Milton Keynes.

He said: “If the council is serious about fly tipping, this is not the right way.

“I am a legitimate and law abiding contractor. This will cost me money.”

MK Council awarded the 10-year contract to run the CRCs to HW Martin Waste Ltd and as part of the partnership, measures are being introduced to restrict the use of the sites by traders and ‘larger commercial-type vehicles’.

A council spokesman said: “Most vehicles with household waste will fall beneath this height restriction including a number of vans and 4x4s.

“Any vehicle higher than two metres will need to go to the Newport Pagnell site if they are carrying household waste and should enter the site via the ‘Trade Waste’ entrance. The 3.5 tonne weight restriction will continue to apply as well to these vehicles.”
