A riding club for disadvantaged children has been voted the worthy winner of the Citizen-backed Community Chest award.

Ride High, based in Great Brickhill, will receive a £500 boost from Taylor Wimpey.

The housebuilding company invited Citizen readers to nominate deserving charities in Milton Keynes.

People were then asked to vote for the charity they would like to see receive the cash.

Hundreds of votes poured in, some from as far afield as Pakistan and America.

“We were amazed at how many of our readers voted. We appreciate how hard it was for them because all the charities nominated were so deserving,” said Citizen editor Olga Norford.

Ride High celebrates its fifth anniversary this year and helps 104 children every week.

It will use the £500 award to enable more young people to enjoy its horses and ponies.

Spokesman Hayley Macenzie-Wright said: “There are vulnerable children, many of whom come from disadvantaged backgrounds, who will now be able to take part in our ‘Own a Pony’ activity days and day trips out of Milton Keynes.”

Taylor Wimpey regional director Steve Rolt said: “This fantastic charity does wonderful work.”
