Aerial Extreme will soon have a new obstacle after a national competition to design one was won by a teenager.
Jordan Tull, 16, was crowned winner of the Aerial Extreme ‘design an obstacle’ competition beating strong competition from over 50 entries received from across the UK.
The competition was launched on National Play Day in August and asked budding designers and adventure enthusiasts to put their skills to the test to design a brand new obstacle which is to be brought to life and built for use at the high ropes course.
The competition was open to all ages and at just 16, Jordan’s creation aptly named ‘The Ropey Wobbler’ is now being built at Aerial Extreme and will be open to visitors to try out first hand from 24th August.
First in the queue will be Jordan who was delighted to have won.
He said: “I’ve been to Aerial Extreme four times now and just love it. I am a big fan of outdoor adventure generally and even studied outdoor education at school and so really wanted to enter the competition as soon as I saw it announced. I never thought I would win and to get to see my design in real life is just amazing and I can’t wait to go back to take on the challenge of it soon.”
The Ropey Wobbler is designed to have an ‘easy’ or ‘advanced’ level as you step onto ropes leading to a free floating wobbly platform with the option to use the hanging loops or not. The challenge is ramped up a level as you get to the log platform itself where you rely solely on your own balancing skills with no handles to help. The zig-zag pattern Jordan has created for the rope bridge gives a number of ways to tackle the challenge and makes this obstacle perfect for all ages.
Aerial Extreme site manager Kieran White said: “The theme for this year’s ‘National Play Day’ was playful places and there’s nowhere more playful than Aerial Extreme. We already have over 50 challenging and exciting obstacles and the Ropey Wobbler is a perfect addition to the course.
“We were thrilled with the quality of entries as they all show a clear passion for outdoor adventure but Jordan’s design went that one step further and I can’t wait to try this out for myself.”
