Rough sleepers using street as a public toilet

Pub landlady Michaela Lyon has told Tesco bosses she’s had enough of drunken men relieving themselves outside the Wolverton shop in the middle of the day.

She has warned of children being approached for money and alcoholic drinks left lying in the street.

Michaela, of the North Western, said: “There up to 10 rough sleepers constantly congregated around there.

“They’re drinking, taking legal highs and begging schoolchildren for money.

“It’s frightening that this is being allowed to go on.

“I think it is absolutely unacceptable.”

Despite numerous complaints to Tesco’s head office, Michaela claims the store has failed to take the appropriate action – and have the rough sleepers removed from the regular spot.

Council bosses have admitted they are aware of the situation on McConnell Drive – but are yet to find a “realistic solution”.

A spokesman for Tesco said: “We try our best to ensure that the surroundings of our store are well maintained for our customers and are working with the relevant authorities.”

A council spokesman said: “We are aware of this situation and we are working towards a resolution with the relevant agencies to reach a realistic solution, a support plan is in place.

“ If any member of the public is concerned about criminal or anti-social activity then they should contact the police.”
