Sainsbury’s staff are marking the start of Carers Week 2015 with an in-store event today.
The ‘Helping hands’ for carers event is about celebrating customers and colleagues in the area that are carers, and highlight the local carers organisations.
The team will be celebrating their support by waving giant foam ‘Helping hands’ to raise awareness of the campaign.
Following the launch and over the week Age UK, Carers MK, Alzheimer’s Society and Marie Curie will run information stands in the store offering advice to customers and colleagues about support services available in the local area.
As one of the only retailers to have a caring policy that supports our colleagues, and store colleagues are always on hand to support customers, the event supports Carers UK’s vision to encourage more carer friendly communities.
Steve Martin, Store Manager of Sainsbury’s Milton Keynes said: “One in eight people in the UK are carers which means it’s likely that many of our customers and colleagues locally will be juggling caring with other responsibilities.
“We’re proud of the support and advice we offer so it’s important that carers in the area are aware of what’s on their doorstep.
“We hope the information on offer today and throughout the week will benefit local people now and in the future.”
Heléna Herklots, from Carers UK said: “It’s great that Sainsbury’s Milton Keynes is really getting behind this year’s Carers Week and, given that supermarkets play a key role in local communities, working together is a great way to spread the word about the importance of supporting carers.”
