Salvation Army awarded homelessness contract for Milton Keynes

MK Council granted the contract for Fishermead Centre, a hostel formerly run by Orbit Housing.

The Mullion Place building has furnished rooms ideal for homeless people, says the Salvation Army.

“We look to help people get back on their feet - with a hand up, not a hand out,” said Nathan Slinn, regional manger for the charity’s homelessness services.

“People are at the centre of everything we do, and we believe in people when they may not believe in themselves,” he added.

The council has also given the Salvation Army a five year contract to run Springfield house, a unit of flats specially for teenage parents and their children.

20 single, fully furnished rooms will be available at the Fishermead Centre for homeless people and rough sleepers from the streets of Milton Keynes.

Springfield House has 16 separate flats, all kitted out for young teenage mums and dads. The Salvation Army will offer them hands-on support as well as accommodation.
