Samoa have arrived in Milton Keynes to prepare ahead of their Rugby World Cup clash with Japan on Saturday at stadium:mk.

The Samoan national team are using facilities at Woughton on the Green for the on-field training from Monday, September 28.

For off-field training, Bletchley Leisure Centre will be the venue for gym work and pool recovery.

Both sites have had a Rugby World Cup 2015 makeover to give the finishing touches to what are already top class facilities.

As well as hosting Samoa, fellow South Sea Islanders Fiji will be training in Milton Keynes in the coming weeks as they ready themselves for their Pool A match with Uruguay on Tuesday October 6.

These matches are two of the three that Milton Keynes is hosting, which also includes France v Canada on Thursday October 1.

Cllr Hannah O’Neill, Deputy Leader of Milton Keynes Council, said “We are very excited that both Samoa and Fiji chose Milton Keynes as their official training bases for Rugby World Cup 2015.

“This is testament to the world class facilities we have in Milton Keynes, truly showing our sporting ambition. Facilities that residents in Milton Keynes use on a daily bases, who can now say that they too have trained at a Rugby World Cup 2015 training bases.”

When the team bases were announced in August 2014, Northampton Saints’ Samoan internationals Khan Fotuali’I, Ken Pisi and George Pisi joined local Milton Keynes touch league players in celebrating the news.
