School expansion gets officially underway

It began with an introduction from Willmott Dixon followed by Cllr Norman Miles, Lead Member for Children and School Improvement cutting the sod.

Cllr Norman Miles said: “I’m really pleased to see the expansion of Bushfield School getting officially underway. We are committed to providing every child in Milton Keynes with a good local school place and this expansion in Wolverton will certainly contribute to that wider aim.”

Due to open its doors in September 2016, the scheme will provide space for an extra 120 pupils over 4 year groups, increasing the overall pupil capacity of the school from 360 to 480 pupils.

The works comprise a new accommodation block, all-weather pitch and additional parental drop off and staff parking, accessed from McConnell Drive.

The expansion at Bushfield is part of the council’s ambitious £160M programme which will see the creation of seven brand new schools and the expansion of 12 more, eventually creating more than 10,000 school places in Milton Keynes and cementing the borough’s reputation as one of the fastest school builders in the country.

Headteacher, Steve Springett-Mchugh, said: “We have worked closely with the council to look at the future of educational provision for our local area and I am pleased to have received their support for Bushfield’s expansion. “It will allow us to provide our unique ethos and vision to more children and to work in close partnership with Wyvern and Radcliffe schools to provide a joined up learning experience for all of the local children in Wolverton.”
