School takes on £1 challenge

Staff and students at The Hazeley Academy have been taking part in a challenge to live on just £1 a day for food and drink to raise awareness of extreme food poverty, excessive consumption, food waste and healthy eating.

Between April 18 and 22, individuals throughout the school community endeavoured to collectively simulate the reality that 1.2 billion people around the world experience.

Through sponsorship for their efforts, they have raised more than £500 for charity Open Door MK. Spearheading the challenge was support assistant Claire Griffiths. She said: “I’ve been overwhelmed by the response from Hazeley staff and students. From the first moment I started approaching people to take part in the challenge it has received unanimous support. I’m proud to work alongside such conscientious and passionate teachers and students.”
