Schoolboy trumps 100,000 others to reach tournament final

City schoolboy Liam Heywood Kenny met and chatted to Sir Steve Redgrave at Saturdays National Top Trumps Schools Tournament final in London .

The 11-year-old saw off 100,000 children from across the UK in heats to make the Grand Final. But the pupil from Long Meadow School narrowly missed out to the overall winner, finishing third.

Liam got to see London’s Olympic Park and said afterwards: “It was great - Sir Steve is a legend.”

Sir Steve was the official ambassador and ‘face’ of the 2012 Top Trumps Schools Tournament. He spent the morning chatting with the finalists their families and friends and crowned the overall winner.

Chris Nixon PE Coordinator at Long Meadow was thrilled to accompany Liam and his family to the finals in London. She said: “I am very proud of Liam and his achievement and that it was wonderful meeting Sir Steve Redgrave.”
