THE location of the Primark application was wrong – but our city needs such investment.

That is the view of MP for Milton Keynes North, Mark Lancaster, after the withdrawal of the Primark proposals for Secklow Gate.

The application was withdrawn at the last minute to the relief of those campaigning against plans to move the city’s market and demolish Secklow Gate Bridge to make way for the fashion retailer.

Mr Lancaster has campaigned with market traders to save them from moving from their current home underneath the bridge.

He said: “Having been contact by an overwhelming number of constituents concerned by the future of our market, I am pleased to see that it has been taken into full consideration by both the council and developers who have withdrawn their application at this stage.

“However, while the location of this application was wrong it is vital that we encourage investment in our city and I am disappointed to see a project that would have bought over 400 jobs with it not come to fruition.

“I hope very much that they will reconsider their application and put forward new proposals for thecentre:mk as part of a strategic plan which will also support our city’s market, in the future.”
