Over 200 older people in Milton Keynes will be celebrating this week as they begin the move into The ExtraCare Charitable Trust’s Shenley Wood Village, the Charity’s second retirement village in the City.
Among them will be Marjorie and Brian Leach from Bradwell Common. Brian has dementia and Marjorie has mobility problems after a serious fall two years ago.
Marjorie says without the Village they may have had to part: “If we hadn’t been able to move, eventually my husband would have had to move into a home because I wouldn’t be able to cope.
“We’ve been married 62 years in November, and I married him for better or worse and in sickness and health. I don’t want us to be separated now. When we move in there, we’ll begin our life again.”
Shenley Wood Village is a partnership between Milton Keynes Council, the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), The Department of Health and The ExtraCare Charitable Trust. It follows Lovat Fields Village, which opened in Willen in 2007 and is currently over-subscribed.
