Shadow Charities Minister, Gareth Thomas MP, popped into Bletchley on Thursday to visit Toybox, the city-based charity that helps street children in Latin America.

Gareth joined City Labour Spokesperson, Andrew Pakes, for a tour of the Toybox office where they met staff and learnt more about the work of the charity and some of the current challenges facing the international development sector.

Toybox is a Christian charity committed to helping street living and street working children and those at risk of becoming so, principally in Latin America. Gareth Thomas is the Labour & Co-operative MP for Harrow West since 1997, served as Minister of State for International Development in the last Labour Government.

Andrew Pakes, Labour and Co-operative Parliamentary Spokesperson for Milton Keynes said: “I was really impressed to meet the Toybox team and to find out more about their work supporting children in Latin America. I was pleased to hear that they are still hitting high fundraising targets despite the tough economic situation. Toybox is another example of a locally-based organisation making a big impact beyond our borough boundaries.“

Andy Stockbridge, Chief Executive of Toybox added: “It was great to welcome Gareth and Andrew to our offices in Bletchley and really encouraging to see such informed interest. Our dedicated team in Milton Keynes were really pleased to share more about their work – helping street children and some of the most disadvantaged children in cities across Latin America.”
