Police are appealing for witnesses after staff were threatened with a knife during a robbery at a shop in New Bradwell.

The incident happened at about 9.35pm on Thursday, when a man entered New Bradwell Food and Wine, in Newport Road. He walked to the till area, before threatening the staff member with a knife. He demanded cash from the till, and the assistant, a 20-year-old woman, handed over an undisclosed amount.

The offender then left the shop, walking off in the direction of Thompson Street.

The man is described as white, in his early to mid-20s, and was wearing a dark hooded top, dark trousers and dark shoes.

Det Con Jason Simpson, investigating the incident, said: “Fortunately the young sales assistant was not hurt in this robbery, but she has been left shaken.

“We believe the offender may have been hanging around the area prior to offence being committed and I am keen to speak to anyone who was in the area and saw him, or who has any information about the robbery.”

Anyone with any information should contact Det Con Simpson via the 24-hour Police Enquiry Centre on 101.
