A shop manager inspired by the poppy installation at the Tower of London has created his own moving tribute to the soldiers who died in the First World War.

Richard Ackland, who runs Wolverton’s Age UK bookshop, and his team have spent the last month creating over 700 paper poppies which now spread over the four windows of the shop in Stratford Road in the shape of a wave.

As the great-grandson of a soldier who fought on the Western Front with the Devonshire Regiment, Richard wanted to commemorate the centenary of the war in a fitting and respectful manner.

The bookshop relies on donations of books from the public and raises funds to provided support to local older people, helping them stay independent. The spectacular window display will stay until the end of the week.
