The long-awaited Wolverton Pool is set to open next month. The new site will be home to a 25 metre pool, as well as a gym and dance and fitness studio.

Built in place of the old outdoor pool complex, it is set to be formally opened by Mayor of Milton Keynes, Councillor Catriona Morris, in a special ceremony on April 20

Former city councillor, Mike Galloway, quizzed Wolverton & Greenleys Town Council at a meeting on Tuesday night over concerns the monthly membership cost of using the new facility would price ordinary residents out of using the pool.

However, speaking to the Citizen yesterday morning he admitted regular users would find the £21.50 for adults and £8.80 for children good value for money.

He also asked the council to consider adopting similar plans to those used by Bletchley Leisure Centre where under-16s and the elderly can swim for free.

He said: “I initially thought they were dearer but they are priced competitively. The council is positively approaching this idea and said they would look into it. Casual swimming needs to be encouraged.”

Chairman of Wolverton Leisure Trust, Hilary Saunders, said: “I am delighted with the way the new pool and gym looks and I’m sure everyone who comes to view it will be thrilled to see this development.”
