Sportive in support of Willen Hospice

The team will take to their bikes for the charity ride on May 8.

Co-founder and group chairman Gary Stimson formed the group when he was forced to surrender his driving licence for 12 months, following a seizure.

“After the seizure I found myself unable to drive for the first time in years,” he said.

“I initially took up cycling to maintain my independence but quickly developed a passion for the sport.

“At first I started cycling with my neighbour Rick Vernon and as word spread, more members of the community started to join us.

“What started as two friends cycling together has today become a club of over 400 members - and it’s growing every week,” he said.

“Many of us within the group have attended cycling events around the country,” added event organiser Iain Morrison.

“We felt that the time was right to host our own event and Willen Hospice is an amazing charity, close to our hearts.”

The 50 mile sportive will start and end at Brooklands Pavilion, Countess Way, Brooklands, passing through many villages on the route.
