St John Ambulance appeals for new local volunteers

Organisers of several St John Ambulance units in MK are appealing for new volunteers to step forward to train as first aiders.

The closing date for applications is April 9.

Specific opportunities for adult first aiders exist at units in Ampthill/Flitwick, Bedford, Biggleswade, Dunstable and Luton.

No prior first aid or volunteering experience is required for any of these roles as all necessary training will be given by existing volunteers and trainers at a regular weekly meeting.

Volunteers with no first aid experience can expect to attain a reasonable level of proficiency after six to nine months.

Following training the volunteers will all be given the chance to attend events in the local community and provide life saving first aid to members of the public.

All potential volunteers must be over 18 and will be required to pass an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Tom Davison, District Volunteer HR Officer in Bedfordshire, said: “We have a number of units in Bedfordshire that wish to recruit new volunteer adult first aiders.
“It’s an incredible feeling knowing that you can save a life and yet only one in 10 people know how to deliver first aid.

“I’m hoping to hear from enthusiastic adults around the county who are willing to give up a few hours a month to learn how to be the difference between a life lost and a life saved.”

Anyone interested in one of these roles can contact Tom for an informal chat at [email protected] or email [email protected]

Indicating which unit location they would like to be considered for.
