Students in Milton Keynes are above the national average

Provisional performance data for exams taken in 2016, shows that 59.6% of Milton Keynes students achieved grades A*-C in both English and maths, known as the Basics measure, which is above the national average for all schools in England of 58.7%.

It represents a 5.3% increase on the same measure from 2015 and an improvement of 8.6% from 2014.

“I am absolutely delighted with this news. It is extremely positive for Milton Keynes,” said Cllr Zoe Nolan, Lead Member for Children and Families.

“The way the results are reported nationally has changed but we are able to compare this result with previous years. We are committed to providing a good local school for every child and these results certainly show our schools can hold their own nationally. Well done to all of our secondary schools, the young people and their families and carers for this achievement.”

Sharon Alexander, Principal at Walton High and Chair of the MK Secondary Heads group said: “All 12 secondary schools in MK have worked incredibly hard to both support and challenge our students and strive for improvement. These figures are testament to the time and effort that has been invested and we are extremely proud to see MK up there above the average.”
