Three colleagues from a city store are preparing for the challenge of a lifetime when they tackle the Ben Nevis at Sunrise trek this weekend.
The trio from Morrisons - Gill Watson, Sarah Munton and Kevin Essex - will join dozens of other colleagues from across the country when they tackle the UK’s highest peak on Sunday, May 31, to raise money for the store’s national charity Sue Ryder.
They will set off in the early hours in the hope of seeing a magical sunrise above Ben Nevis, which stands at 1,344 metres (4,408ft) above sea level. They are hoping to raise more than £400 towards the Morrisons Raise a Smile partnership, which is funding the expansion of Sue Ryder’s end of life care services across the UK.
The Ben Nevis at Sunrise challenge was organised following the success of a Snowdon at Sunrise event for Morrisons colleagues last year, which raised over £12,000 towards the Raise a Smile partnership with Sue Ryder.
Kevin, who completed Snowdon at Sunrise and also recently starred in the Morrisons-sponsored Britain’s Got Talent adverts, said: “It will be a challenge but we’re really looking forward to it - standing at the top of Ben Nevis and watching the sun rise will be an amazing experience.
“It’s also great to raise funds for our charity partner Sue Ryder. Morrisons in Milton Keynes has raised over £3,400 for Sue Ryder since our national partnership began in February 2014 and we’re proud to be adding a bit more onto the total.”
Money raised through the Morrisons Raise a Smile partnership with Sue Ryder is funding new community healthcare services, family support teams and an online community with online support, providing the best possible care to people at the end of their lives and support for their families.
