Supermarket hands out help for homeless

The Westcroft store has collected donations of food and clothing as well as vouchers for people on the streets to come into its customer cafe for a hot meal.

And two musical members of staff even wrote a song about how important it is to help the homeless.

Trainee butchers Josh Muir and Charlie Barton are also rap artists, and put their song on YouTube and Twitter.

They were delighted when it was retweeted by famous DJ and TV presenter Pat Sharp.

The homeless help drive was the initiative of Morrisons’ community campaigner Louise Gosden

She decided to work with St Andrew’s Church in Bletchley to help homeless people over Christmas and the cold winter months.

She said: “The first thing we did was put out empty shopping trolleys on the shop floor and in the staff canteen for people to fill with donations of food and clothing.

“Before we knew it we had more than a dozen trolleys all overflowing with donations.”

Louise then put a sign up in the customer cafe inviting shoppers to pay for an extra breakfast, hot drink, or meal to donate to allow a homeless person to tuck in.

“We collected enough for 120 meals. We’ve put it all into envelopes for the church to distribute” she said.

Louise is hoping to roll out the campaign throughout all Morrisons stores next year.
