Taxi driver is threatened with handgun and robbed of cash

But the offender was chased by members of the public who picked up a bag containing the gun and handed it in to police.

The incident happened around 5.50pm when the taxi driver stopped stopped his vehicle, a black Toyota Avensis, in Lloyds, Coffee Hall, Milton Keynes.

The customer threatened the driver with a handgun and demanded he hand over money, robbing him of a quantity of cash.

The offender is white, in his mid-20s, slim, with facial stubble.

He was wearing denim jeans, a white T-shirt and a light blue jumper and carrying an orange Sainsbury’s carrier bag.

The offender entered the taxi outside Sainsbury’s supermarket in Brunel Shopping Centre, Bletchley.

Investigating officer, Det Sgt Jason Simpson of Force CID based at Milton Keynes police station, said: “Following the offence the offender ran off in the direction of Oldbrook and was chased by members of the public, who recovered a discarded bag containing a gas powered hand gun.

“I would appeal to anyone who hasn’t already come forward to contact police with any information, no matter how insignificant they think it might be.

“If you have any information about the incident please call the 24-hour Thames Valley Police enquiry centre on 101.

“If you do not want to speak directly to the police you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. No personal details are taken, information is not traced or recorded and you will not go to court.”
