A teenage girl was assaulted during an attempted robbery in Fishermead on Sunday.

At about 8.20pm, the 16-year-old was walking on an overbridge leading to the Xscape building, off Childs Way, H6, when she noticed that she was being followed by a group of men.

One of the men grabbed her and threatened her and asked for her mobile phone.

The same man also punched her in the face and kicked her in the leg.

When a siren was heard, the men ran off empty-handed in the direction of Fishermead.

The girl sustained reddening to her face and a sore knee, but did not require hospital treatment.

The men are black, aged 18 to 20 and wearing hooded tops that were covering their faces, and Nike trainers. Two were wearing blue jeans and two were wearing black tracksuit bottoms.

Detective Constable Wendy Cissell, investigating, said: “Thankfully the girl was not seriously injured and she did not have anything stolen. However, it was an understandably traumatic experience for her and we are very keen to hear from anyone who may have any information that may assist us in apprehending those responsible.

“We would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident itself, saw any suspicious activity in the area or recognises the description of the group.”

Any potential witnesses can call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
