Tell us your quirky facts to celebrate MK's 50th

Milton Keynes Council is putting together ‘50 amazing facts about MK’ to show why the borough is a fantastic place to live, work and visit. The facts will feature on a dedicated MK50 website that will highlight all the exciting events being organised for 2017, as well as giving potential visitors a flavour of MK.

Council Leader Pete Marland said: “Some people think of Milton Keynes and all they know is ‘concrete cows and roundabouts but the reality is very different, as local people appreciate.

“We’ve got some great organisations based here, a thriving cultural scene, and lots of green space. We’re looking for surprising facts that confound the preconceptions that some people have about us – ideally information that will raise eyebrows or make people smile.”

Maybe your business has a connection to every country, or your boss had a number one hit in the 1980s. It might be your café has served enough sandwiches to stretch to the moon and back, or your scout group has broken a Guinness World Record. Every fact is welcome.

Information from businesses and groups will join unexpected ‘place facts’ in the final list, such as that MK is 40% green space with more shoreline than Jersey, that the phrase ‘a Cock and Bull story’ originated in Stony Stratford, that the Enigma code was cracked in Bletchley during WWII, and that MK has more than 200 works of public art

As well as facts, the council is also looking for digital versions of photos that illustrate MK over the last five decades, and will feature the best on the MK50 website.
