TWO students have been named among the best young physicists in the country.

Ian Orton and Josh Maxey, also 18 and both from Milton Keynes, won medals in the Institute of Physics Olympiad. Ian was awarded a gold medal as he was one of the top 50 students in the country, while Josh gained a bronze.

The British Physics Olympiad has run for 25 years and is entered annually by over 1,000 young physicists. The examination-based competition challenges and rewards the best physicists in British schools, as well as selecting the UK Physics Team for competition at international level.

The pair are pupils at Bedford Modern School and teacher Steve Harvey said: “It has been a pleasure to work with the students in the Physics Enrichment Group and particularly gratifying that Ian, Josh and Callum did so well in the National Olympiad.”
