People have been urged not to panic when they see large numbers of police cars, fire engines and ambulances outside the Jury's Inn hotel.

They are there for an emergency service exercise, which started outside the hotel at 1pm today.

"Please don't be alarmed," said a spokesman for Bucks Fire and Rescue Service.

He added: "Thank you to Jurys Inn for working with us and allowing us to stage it - we will do our best to cause minimum disruption people should not be concerned by big emergency services presence in Milton Keynes today."

Such exercises are held at least on a yearly basis and are designed to test the city's response to emergency situations such as terrorists attacks or other major incidents.
