11.15am travel update: M1 closed northbound after multi-vehicle crash near Milton Keynes

The M1 is closed northbound near Milton Keynes after a multi-vehicle crash today (Thursday).

Highways Agency officials say they do not expect the road to reopen before 2.30pm.

A spokesman said: "There is approximately four miles of congestion on the approach to this collision within Junction 13. Drivers heading north from Luton can expect long delays of up to 60 minutes to get past the incident."

Traffic is being diverted up and over the motorway at Junction 13 causing knock-on delays on the A421.

Traffic is also building up on the A5 as drivers attempt to find a way round the queues.

A broken down vehicle near Junction 12 is causing more problems for drivers heading north.
