Drivers are facing eight miles of queues on the M1 southbound between Milton Keynes and Luton on Monday morning.

Highways England traffic officers stopped traffic following a collision in lane four near to Junction 12 for Flitwick.

And the agency reported traffic was solid back to Junction 13 and crawling to Junction 14 at around 7.45am.

A spokesman said: "Our officers halted all traffic to safely put out a lane closure due to the collision in lane four. There are now eight miles of congestion back to Junction 13 causing delays of 60 minutes above the usual travel time on approach to this incident.

"Traffic has been released but there is still a closure in lane one at J12 for a broken down vehicle.

"Please take care on approach and consider alternative routes where possible."
