Gritting will begin across Milton Keynes tonight (Friday) after the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for ice

The Met Office has issued an ice warning for areas in the south east of England including Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes.

The weather warning is valid from 9pm tonight until 10am tomorrow (Saturday, December 5) - with icy patches expected to form overnight tonight.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "Cloud is expected to clear this evening and overnight allowing temperatures to fall close to freezing which may lead to icy patches on untreated surfaces."

The Met Office spokesperson said members of the public should expect some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces and probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.

Ringway MK, which grits the roads on behalf of the council, tweeted today saying: "We are currently planning a gritting run this evening, however, we are monitoring the weather update before confirming the exact time of gritting action. Update to follow."

Milton Keynes Council said on Twitter: "Gritting update: with very wet roads and falling temperatures we'll be doing at least one gritting run over the next few hours. Take care if out on the roads and drive to the conditions."
