UPDATE: Arrest made as 13 suspected illegal immigrants in back of Toddington lorry

A Hungarian man has been arrested after suspected illegal immigrants were found in the back of a lorry in Toddington.

Bedfordshire Police officers attended an incident at Toddington Services near junction 12 of the M1. Thirteen people were arrested on suspicion of entering the UK illegally

A Bedfordshire Police spokesman said: “We were called at around 12.45pm to reports of suspected illegal immigrants in the back of a lorry at the northbound Toddington motorway services.”

East of England Ambulance were also at the scene, where the 13 people received medical treatment.

Immigration Enforcement was then contacted by police.

A Home Office spokesman said: “The group will be passed into the custody of Immigration Enforcement for their cases to be progressed.

“A 42-year-old Hungarian man was arrested on suspicion of facilitating illegal immigration. He is currently in custody pending interview by Immigration Enforcement.

“Where someone is found to have no right to remain in the UK, we will take action to remove them.”
