Using a printer becomes a 3D art experience

Printing out pages is set to take on a whole new dimension at Milton Keynes Arts Gateway.

A local company is determined to turn the humble printer into an art form capable of producing 3D paper sculptures.

3D-Printworld is staging a series of free lectures this month at the Arts Gateway building at Central Milton Keynes.

Called ‘Print Your World’, the lectures will demonstrate the company’s desktop machines, which can produce anything from engineering prototypes to chess sets.

The process involves laying down successive layers of
paper digitally until an object is created.

“Home users can let their creative talents run wild and create 3D sculptures
inexpensively and easily, as well as creating their own ‘widgets’ for everyday use,” said a spokesman.

Already there is an online 3D printing community and members refer to themselves as Makers.
