Vermin trouble at popular Milton Keynes store

A popular city store that attracts thousands of customers is suffering from unwelcome guests - in the form of mice and rats.

Customers have complained about mouse droppings among the products on the shelves at The Range in Winterhill.

They say they have also seen large rats scurrying across the car park.

“The food is all packaged, but it really puts you off.”

The customer was
surprised when she dropped her purse, bent down to pick it up - and spotted a mouse trap under a display rack by a till.

“It’s not the sort of thing you expect to see,” she said.

Another customer said: “I went to The Range at 10am on Sunday. I’d just got out of my car in the car park when a massive rat ran right in front of me. It was almost as big as a cat.

“I‘ve spoken to other
people about it and they say they’ve also seen rats outside The Range.”

Milton Keynes Council has confirmed its environmental health officers are aware of the vermin situation.

A council spokesman said: “We have received several complaints about this premises and we are working closely with the shop owners to rectify the problems.”

The Range opened in MK in November 2013 and has proved a huge hit with shoppers. It is part of a nationwide chain selling home, garden and leisure products.

The Citizen called the Range and spoke to a deputy manager called Stephanie.

She said: “We are working with environmental health and will get the issue sorted. Publishing a story in your newspaper will not help.

She added: “Our store is clean and tidy – otherwise we would not be making as much money as we do or have as many customers as we do.”
