Vets practice is the cat’s whiskers

Greensands veterinary practice has celebrated its first anniversary by becoming the first practice in Milton Keynes to receive a special award for the quality of veterinary care it provides to cats.

The practice in Station Road, Woburn Sands, has been given a Silver Award by the International Society of Feline Medicine (IFSM), which runs an international programme called Cat-Friendly Clinic.

Derek Attride and Emma Pillow took over Greensands in February 2014 and are also celebrating being shortlisted for the annual Vet Practice of the Year Award. This is one of a number of awards presented by pet insurance company PetPlan based on nominations from pet-owners and colleagues.

Greensands’ head nurse Mike Swann, who has lived in Woburn all his life, has also been shortlisted for the Veterinary Nurse of the Year Award. The awards are presented in April.

Mike Swann said: “I have wanted to work with animals for as long as I can remember. I started out doing two weeks’ work experience at Woburn Safari Park and I continued doing voluntary work there at weekends for two years.

“I moved into veterinary practice in 1998 and qualified as a registered veterinary nurse in 2005. I have worked at Greensands for seven years and feel extremely proud to have been nominated for the Pet Plan Veterinary Nurse of the Year.

The practice has changed a great deal over the last year and I’m looking forward to seeing what the next year brings.”
