Milton Keynes’ outstanding women were celebrated at a special event following International Women’s Day on Sunday.
It was at the launch of the Women Leaders’ MK awards 2015 at Milton Keynes College yesterday ahead of its official ceremony evening in November.
Founder Jan Flawn CBE is encouraging city females to nominate themselves or a colleague to be in with a chance of winning an award later this year.
Jan, who was a previous winner of the First Woman of Business Services Award in 2013, said: “Today has been a fantastic launch of International Women’s Day, but also of our Women Leaders.
“Milton Keynes is led by women.
“So I thought the Women Leaders would be a good way for MK businessmen to actually acknowledge that there are some very good, strong women leaders in Milton Keynes who are keeping this city going.”
Yesterday, female guest speakers such as Phoebe Claydon, Engineer at Nissan and Jocelyn Whittaker-Smith, project manager at VINCI Construction and college principal Dr Julie Mills all spoke to celebrate International Women’s Day.
Dr Mills said: “It has been an amazing event here at the college and I am so pleased we have been able to come together as students, staff and businesses to talk about inclusion and equality.
“It has been fantastic.
“I hope that it has made everyone think. For a lot of people in the audience they won’t have known the statistics about the difference in society.

“Particularly in the UK where we think we are pretty equal; we have equality and opportunity.
“I hope it has made people think that they can think things that they didn’t think they could - that it is ok not to be typical and to try something different.”
